Today I had a day where we were in the middle of another lesson but needed to wait for the paintings to dry before moving on. I taught this Doodle lesson that is in my TpT store and it went great!
First I showed the doodle movie, then we talked about why doodling is important as a class. Because it helps develop abstract thinking skills, because it helps students define their own individuals styles, especially over time. We also talked about how doodling increases retention and comprehension when they are doodling while a teacher talks! I described sketch notes a and told them to research sketch-noting if they were interested in improving their note taking ability.
About halfway through the class I had students come up and present their work on a volunteer basis. I also encouraged students to get up and see what other kids were working on! We had so much fun. This is a great substitute lesson or beginning of the semester lesson and just plain fun! You should really try it!
Here are some pictures of the process and some of my high school students final doodles!
Let me know what you think!
